ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS AND GRATITUDES

Thank you to my parents, Claudette and Bill Fonshell, and the rest of my family for giving me the opportunity to spend my semester in Kenya. I would also like to thank the School for International Training (SIT) for establishing such an intriguing program. Specifically, our Program Director Dr. Steve Wandiga, our Program Coordinator Miltone Omondi, our Office Manager, Christine Odera, our Homestay Coordinator, Sam (Babu) Rabbet, our Swahili teachers Mwalimus Reuben Jemase and Anne Wanjiru,  our driver Matua, our office assistant, Cecilia and the numerous other guest lecturers and tour guides that enhanced our program that semester. Thank you also to my advisor Grace Kunga for her guidance and support. Special note of gratitude to my research assistant Fred Misach and the numerous other community health workers involved in making my research study possible. Finally, thank you to my host families in Kisumu Town and Semenya Village for being so hospitable to me during my time abroad.

Furthermore, thank you to The University of South Carolina study abroad office for providing me the ability to study abroad with SIT in Kenya. Thank you also to David DeWeil, my Graduation with Leadership Distinction advisor and mentor as well as the USC Connect Office for it's assistance.

I am grateful for the University of South Carolina and the classmates, professors and opportunities I have had the privilege to encounter in my four years as a Gamecock!

Asante Sana and Forever To Thee!
